Case Study 2 - Voewood House, Stockport. Residential accommodation.Reason for installing a new water main – Client has had a major leak on the water main and was losing in excess of 10,000 litres per hour. Client served with an improvement notice from United Utilities and told to repair / replace the water main. Existing main was located beneath the tower block and so repair was not possible. We proposed a new main be installed using an alternative external route. Excavated out and installed a new 90mm-diameter PE main, complete with valve chambers, signed off and inspected to the satisfaction of United Utilities. Completed within budget and within the improvement notice period.
Case Study 3 - Public HouseWe were called out to site to investigate a water leak which was running through a pub wall and onto the car park. The pub were experiencing horrific smells throughout the pub due to the leak running water underneath the pub. We attended site and carried out extensive dye testing and a CCTV survey from the drains in the area. We found 4 large breaks and 3 smaller cracks in the pipework. We installed 3 patches into the drainage system to cover the defects and stop the leak. The line was then filled with water to ensure it was not leaking and running fine.
Case Study 4 - Public HouseBrewery asked us to attend site as every time it rained, the pub were getting water pouring into the cellar through the wall. We attended site within 24hrs and carried out extensive dye testing to check all the drains were running and ensure they were not causing the issue. We then located a hole in the brickwork next to a gully. We poured dye into the brickwork to check this and found it pouring into the cellar in the exact location of the leak. Instead of calling in the building contractor, our team was able to brick up the wall to fill in the hole and confirm the drainage system was not the cause. The leak was repaired within 24hrs and the landlord was happy as the cellar could now dry out and the stock was no longer getting wet. The hole in the pipework was repaired to prevent a collapse.
Case Study 5 - ResidentialWe were called out to site to investigate damp issues at a number of properties. Tenants were having to keep windows open due to smell and continuously clean the black mould off their walls. We attended site and carried out a survey of the drainage lines on site. We found defects all along the drain line running beneath the properties which were allowing water to escape to ground and cause damp issues. We also found a broken gully which needed replacing due to water leaking in and around the edges, also causing damp issues. The report was reviewed and we recommended a number of patch liners to be installed to cover the cracks and defects along the drainage line. We also replaced and installed a new gully to prevent the old one leaking to ground. The tenants no longer have damp.
Case Study 6 - Public HouseBrewery asked us to attend site as the pub were getting a leak into the laundry room through the external walls. This was causing major disruption and upset to the landlady. We attended site within 24hrs and located a cracked gully on the external wall. We also carried out a survey and found the line was all broken and the rest bend was also cracked and leaking to ground. We dye tested the drain to confirm the water was leaking through the wall and into the pub. We carried out an excavation and replaced the broken pipework and installed a new gully and installed patch liners to repair the pipe which we didn’t have access to. The leak was repaired within 48hrs and the landlady was happy.
