A beautiful garden can be a brilliant addition to any home. However, if you have large trees in your garden, the roots can cause problems. In their quest for water, roots can actually damage the structural integrity of your home and can cause subsidence. They can also cause problems to your drainage pipes.
Roots can actually find their way into your drains and block them when they multiply quickly after finding a source of water. This root ball can then stop the waste from flowing through your drainage pipe and hence cause a blockage.
A drainage professional will usually diagnose a drain blocked by roots by carrying out a CCTV survey. A camera is inserted into your drain and real-time images of the interior of the pipe can be viewed on a computer screen. Using these, images the drainage contractor will then decide what needs to be done to solve the issue.
Roots in pipes are usually cut away using a rotating root cutter. This trims the roots back to the original diameter of the pipe so waste can flow freely again. To stop the problem reoccurring, your drainage company may suggest a liner repair. This will not only repair the pipe, it will remove the need for digging to replace the damaged section of pipe.
